Kona Ecoco DL women's e-bike review

In the early 1990s when mountain bikes first appeared on the UK’s mainstream cycling scene, Kona was a brand that made a big impression.
Carefully thought-out component choice and eye-catching styling quickly helped to establish it as one of the go-to MTB names.
Now the brand has applied that same ethos to the electric bike market – as evidenced by the Ecoco DL.

It’s built around a step-through aluminium frame – traditionally seen as a ‘women’s frame’ but now considered to improve accessibility to all because it makes it easier to get on and off the bike for those not flexible enough to swing a leg over the top of the saddle.
The Ecoco DL can be a classy commuter or a casual cruiser depending upon how the mood takes you.

In a nod to its early mountain bike designs, Kona has updated its Project 2 front fork: it’s now aluminium rather than steel, and its chunky looks complement the lines of the frame.
Of course, the larger tubes of the frame allow the bike’s Shimano E6100 and matching battery to be discreetly integrated.
More homages to Kona’s mountain biking roots can be seen in other areas, such as the off-road Deore 10-speed groupset from Shimano and a wheel and tyre combination from off-road pioneer WTB.

The WTB 650b wheelset benefits from tubeless, puncture-resistant and large-volume tyres for comfort while also having the security of hydraulic disc brakes for safe stopping.
Among the other highlights that set the Ecoco DL apart are the inclusion of accessories that make commuting less stressful such as full-length mudguards and a kickstand, while front and rear Busch & Müller lights are a touch of real top-end quality.
