American Classic tyres launch (again): Lighter, faster, more durable and hookless-compatible

The recently re-launched brand promises an improved collection of 2022 road and gravel tyres

American Classic has launched new versions of its road and gravel tyres, in tube type and tubeless-ready versions which it says offer improved puncture protection despite being faster and lighter.

The US brand, which re-launched last September after ceasing operations in 2018, says its 2022 collection carries over all of the same models launched last autumn but with several technological improvements including increased durability and lower rolling resistance.

Prices have been increased but still remain competitive, ranging from £31.80 to £35.50.

The road tyres, called the Timekeeper and Torchbearer, have been updated with bolstered puncture resistance.

The Timekeeper, a premier road racing tyre, now uses a new Stage 3 armour for tube types and Stage 3S armour for its tubeless models, with 3S incorporating a 120TPI skin, whilst the Torchbearer incorporates Stage 4 and 4S armour in all versions

The updated Timekeeper and Torchbearer tubeless ready tyres are now compatible with hookless rims with a maximum recommended air pressure of 73 psi (in line with ETRTO guidelines).

American Classic has also introduced a 30mm version of the Timekeeper, alongside the existing 25 and 28mm options.

On the gravel front, the tubeless tyres retain their original tread patterns but have been updated with Stage 5S armour, which according to the brand offer the ‘best-in-class puncture protection’ despite the tyres being lighter weight overall.

The gravel tyres will continue to be offered in 700c×40mm, 70050mm, and 65047mm. The Kimberlite, American Classic’s ‘go-anywhere tyre’, also now comes in 70035mm.

The brand has expanded its colour offering, with a brown sidewall now an option as well as the previous tan and black.

To top it all off, American Classic says that both the updated Timekeeper and Kimberlite tyres have been third party tested for rolling resistance efficiency against the 2021 models and both have shown measurable improvements.

In order to quantify these improvements, the 2022 tyre models have increased in price, but still remain competitive, with road tyres are priced between £31.80 and £35.50 and gravel tyres priced at £35.50.

All models will be available on the American Classic website and the American Classic Amazon web store.
